The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior: Shiro-san and I

The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior, also known as Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou, originated as a manga series by Ruri Miyahara before being adapted into a twelve-episode anime series by Studio Brain's Base in 2014. The special episode, titled Shiro-san and I, was released later that year as an original video animation included with the seventh volume of the Blu-ray and DVD releases. The production aimed to provide additional character depth, specifically focusing on the eccentric Shiro-san, whose complex personality and unorthodox motivations serve as a comedic anchor within the series' boarding house setting.

The animation reflects the distinct visual style established by director Shigeyuki Miya, who sought to balance the series' romantic comedy elements with its often surreal, slapstick humor. Brain's Base maintained the vibrant, expressive character designs that defined the television run, ensuring consistency for fans of the source material. Upon its release, the special was well-received by the existing audience for its ability to flesh out supporting characters who were previously relegated to background comedic relief, further cementing the show's reputation for character-driven storytelling.
