Where it came from
The Royal Tutor, known in Japan as Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine, originated as a manga series by Higasa Akai before being adapted into a television anime by Studio Bridge in 2017. The narrative centers on Heine Wittgenstein, a diminutive but highly intellectual royal tutor tasked with educating four unique princes to prepare them for the throne. The series occupies a space in the 'educational slice-of-life' subgenre, blending character-driven comedy with themes of personal growth and mentorship.
Studio Bridge’s production focused on capturing the refined aesthetic of the original manga, emphasizing the distinct personalities and regal attire of the main cast. The series was designed to appeal to fans of character-focused dramas and lighthearted palace politics. Upon its release, it received a positive reception for its gentle pacing and the chemistry between the tutor and his pupils, eventually spawning a stage play and an animated film sequel.
