The Sakuramoto broom workshop

The Sakuramoto broom workshop originated as an experimental short produced by Geidai Animation, the prestigious graduate film program at Tokyo University of the Arts. Created as part of the studio's mandate to foster distinct, auteur-driven storytelling, the film emerged from a climate of rigorous academic study and artistic exploration that defines the Geidai curriculum. It was conceived to showcase the intersection of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and contemporary animation techniques.

The film was designed with an emphasis on atmospheric detail, focusing on the rhythmic, tactile processes of artisanal broom-making. The project was led by student animators under the mentorship of established industry professionals, aiming to elevate a mundane, heritage-based subject into a meditative cinematic experience. It received positive critical attention within international animation festival circuits for its nuanced character movement and authentic depiction of rural craftsmanship.
