Where it came from
The Seven Heavenly Virtues (Nanatsu no Bitoku) specials were produced by Studio Bridge in 2018 as a companion series to the main television anime. Released as a series of short episodes, this project was designed to counterbalance the studio’s previous work, The Seven Mortal Sins, by personifying the seven Catholic virtues: Humility, Charity, Kindness, Patience, Diligence, Temperance, and Chastity. The series leans into a lighthearted, character-driven aesthetic intended to contrast with the darker, more provocative themes of its predecessor.
The creative direction for these specials emphasized a bright, accessible visual style, focusing on the distinct personalities and allegorical designs of each virtue. The series was received as a niche addition to the franchise, appealing primarily to fans of character-focused comedy and fantasy-themed anime. By centering the narrative on the interactions between these personified virtues and their human partners, the production sought to provide a satisfying conclusion to the overarching multimedia project that began with the figure and light novel lines associated with the property.
