Where it came from
The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting originated as a manga series by Tsukiya before being adapted into a twelve-episode television anime series by studio feel. and Gaina in 2022. The narrative centers on Tooru Kirishima, a lieutenant in a yakuza organization who is tasked with looking after the young daughter of his boss, a premise designed to explore the clash between the rigid, violent world of organized crime and the soft, nurturing responsibilities of childcare.
The animation design emphasizes a sharp contrast between the menacing, angular character models of the yakuza members and the bright, rounded aesthetic of the home environment. Directed by Itsuro Kawasaki, the production aimed to balance comedic tropes with moments of genuine sentimentality. Upon its release, the series was noted for its departure from standard genre expectations, focusing on character development and domestic dynamics rather than the typical action-oriented plots often associated with yakuza-themed media.
