To celebrate "Cheese Day," (November 11 in Japan), Cartoon Network Japan debuted an anime spin on Tom and Jerry that combines the fast-paced humor of the original with a cute, "pop" worldview. The pair are joined by the diaper-wearing Tuffy Mouse, another recurring character from the classic cartoon.

Where it came from
Tom and Jerry Gokko was produced by Fanworks in 2022 as a localized Japanese interpretation of the long-running Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer franchise. The series was developed to bring the classic slapstick dynamics of the cat and mouse duo into a distinctively Japanese comedic framework, leveraging the studio's reputation for high-quality animation to bridge the gap between Western heritage and regional storytelling tropes.
The series centers on shorter, punchy segments that emphasize character expressions and comedic timing tailored for domestic television audiences. By focusing on a format reminiscent of traditional Japanese 'gokko' or pretend play, the designers aimed to maintain the core identity of the Tom and Jerry brand while recontextualizing the animation style and sound design to feel fresh and accessible to a new generation of viewers in Japan.
