Tou Xing Jiuyue Tian

Tou Xing Jiuyue Tian, also known as Starry Sky Nine Months, emerged from the popular Chinese manhua series created by artist Zhou Hongbin. Produced by Bilibili and adapting the high-energy, action-oriented aesthetic of the original source material, this ONA aimed to capture the supernatural combat and character-driven narrative that defined the long-running print series. Its design leans heavily into the vivid, saturated color palettes and expressive character shorthand common in contemporary Chinese animation, focusing on the dynamic movement of the protagonists as they navigate their complex world.

The adaptation was commissioned to capitalize on the deep-seated fan loyalty fostered by the original manhua, which has long been a staple in the Chinese youth demographic. By translating the static, panel-based storytelling of the print version into an episodic animated format, the studio sought to introduce these characters to a broader digital audience. While receiving mixed feedback regarding the fidelity of its pacing compared to the original chapters, the series remains a significant representative of Bilibili’s efforts to cultivate domestic intellectual properties into multimedia franchises.
