Where it came from
Try Z is a two-episode original video animation (OVA) released in 2000, functioning as an experimental entry within the broader Japanese animation landscape of the late nineties and early millennium. Produced during a period when the OVA format was frequently used to explore unconventional storytelling or niche aesthetic concepts that might not sustain a full-length television series, this project sought to push stylistic boundaries in character design and kinetic composition.
The animation reflects the high-contrast, edgy aesthetic popular in underground and cult-following anime circles at the turn of the century. While the project remains a relatively obscure relic, its creation was typical of small-studio efforts to blend intense action sequences with abstract narrative structures. It was received by enthusiasts primarily as a curiosity, valued by collectors of the era's avant-garde visual style rather than as a mainstream commercial staple.
