In their continuing journey to find the feathers that are the fragments of Sakura's lost memory, Syaoran, Kurogane, Fai, and Sakura move through time and space with Mokona. Here, they visit the "Land of the Birdcage," a seemingly peaceful country where people and birds live together, each person having a bird companion. After a boy named Koruri confuses Syaoran and Sakura for "bodyguards" and attacks them, they learn that the king of the country possesses a mysterious power. Princess Tomoyo, Koruri, and the other oppressed citizens, having had their birds taken from them, live in hiding within the forest. In order to take back Sakura's feather, Syaoran and the others stand up against the scheming king.

Where it came from
Released in 2005, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle the Movie: The Princess in the Birdcage Kingdom served as a cinematic companion to the ongoing anime series adapted from the manga by CLAMP. Produced by Production I.G, the film was designed to bridge the gap between episodes while offering a self-contained narrative that showcased the studio's high-budget animation capabilities. It was released as a double feature alongside the xxxHolic film, reflecting the interconnected multiverse storytelling that CLAMP is famous for in their works.
The film's visual identity remains deeply rooted in CLAMP's characteristic aesthetic, which emphasizes fluid character designs and intricate, ethereal background settings. Production I.G focused on refining the animation quality to distinguish the feature from the television broadcast. Upon its release, it was met with appreciation from the existing fan base for its visual fidelity and the unique opportunity to see the characters of Syaoran and Sakura navigate a self-contained, fairy-tale-inspired mystery that distilled the core themes of travel and sacrifice found in the source material.
