Where it came from
Uchi no 3 Shimai, or 'My Three Daughters,' originated as a popular autobiographical blog by Japanese illustrator Yoriko Matsumoto, documenting the chaotic and humorous daily life of raising her three young daughters. Given the immense traction of the blog, the material was adapted into an anime series by Toei Animation in 2008, maintaining the lighthearted, observational spirit of the original digital essays.
The series design focuses on a simplified, sketch-like aesthetic that mimics the original blog illustrations, emphasizing comedic timing and expressive character reactions over complex animation. It was received as a relatable slice-of-life program for parents and general audiences, finding a steady place in daytime television programming throughout its multi-year run.
