Uzumaki is a four-episode anime miniseries produced by Production I.G and Drive, adapting Junji Ito’s seminal 1998 horror manga of the same name. Released in 2024, the production sought to faithfully capture the surreal, ink-heavy aesthetic of Ito’s original work through a stark black-and-white visual style. The project was notably delayed for several years to ensure the animation could maintain the intricate detail required to translate the manga's unsettling, spiral-obsessed body horror to the screen.

The series was directed by Hiroshi Nagahama, who aimed to preserve the specific rhythmic tension found in the source material. By utilizing a minimalist color palette and carefully paced animation, the team focused on replicating the distinct, claustrophobic atmosphere of the town of Kurouzu-cho.
