Where it came from
Waga Na wa Cowboy, or 'My Name is Cowboy,' was a television series produced by the Japanese national broadcaster NHK. It emerged during a period when the network was actively exploring unique narrative formats that blended local storytelling with thematic influences from global cinema genres, in this case, the classic American Western.
The production was designed to showcase NHK’s capacity for high-quality dramatic storytelling within a structured episodic framework. By transplanting the archetypal lone-ranger figure into a Japanese production context, the creators aimed to examine themes of justice and isolation. The series is remembered as a specialized entry in NHK’s extensive archives, reflecting the network’s efforts to provide diverse and experimental programming to its domestic audience.
