Where it came from
Wanna be the Strongest in the World! emerged in 2013 as a provocative addition to the sports-anime genre, specifically focusing on the world of female professional wrestling. Produced by the studio ARMS, the series was designed to blend the high-stakes physical drama of the ring with a fan-service-heavy aesthetic, centering on a popular idol who transitions into the wrestling circuit. This thematic intersection was intended to mirror the real-world spectacle and pageantry often found in Japanese pro-wrestling promotions.
The animation style favored by ARMS emphasized dynamic character designs and intricate fight choreography, aiming to balance character development with the intensity of match-based storytelling. Upon its release, the series became a notable example of the niche studio's output during the early 2010s. It was received as a polarizing work, recognized by some for its earnest commitment to wrestling tropes and criticized by others for its reliance on exaggerated visual tropes common to the studio's broader catalog of that era.
