Inspired by her favorite book, Elaina ventures out to see the world she's read so much about. Like a leaf on the wind, she travels from one country to another, looking to sate her inquisitiveness and searching for new experiences. She's confronted by humanity in all its forms, whether strange, bizarre, or emotional. Exploration and curiosity drive her journey. Where to next, Elaina?

Where it came from
Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina, or Majo no Tabitabi, began as a light novel series written by Jougi Shiraishi and illustrated by Azure. The series follows the travels of a young witch named Elaina across a continent filled with diverse cultures and often unsettling folk tales. The narrative style draws inspiration from travelogues, emphasizing episodic encounters over a singular overarching plot.
The 2020 television adaptation was produced by studio C2C and directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka. The production sought to replicate the lush, painterly aesthetic of the source material's illustrations while navigating the darker, sometimes cynical themes present in Shiraishi's writing. Upon its release, it was noted for its high-quality art direction and its willingness to present a protagonist who observes rather than necessarily solves the problems of the people she encounters.
