Where it came from
Watari-kun's ****** Is about to Collapse is a 2025 television adaptation produced by Staple Entertainment, based on the long-running manga series by Narumi Shige. The story originates from the popular romantic comedy genre, focusing on the complex interpersonal dynamics and internal struggles of the titular protagonist, Watari. The production sought to capture the series' signature blend of character-driven humor and emotional tension, translating the source material's established aesthetic into an animated format.
The adaptation was developed during a period of high demand for romantic comedy anime, with the design choices prioritizing a faithful recreation of the manga's expressive art style. By leveraging Staple Entertainment's approach to fluid character animation, the studio aimed to maintain the nuanced facial expressions and comedic timing that fans of the original print work have come to expect. Upon its release, the series was positioned as a significant entry in the 2025 seasonal lineup, evaluated primarily on its ability to balance the source material’s established tone with the medium of television.
