Humans acquired a perfect source of energy called "Patia", which brought self-sufficiency in food and fuel to all the people in the world. Trade and transportation began to diminish and finally the advance of the civilization terminated. Now the genetically modified plants cover almost all of the lands on earth and obstruct travelers.
Cient, the leader of a fortress city, sets out on a trip to excavate the lost technology "Patia" with his daughter Ruri. When Ruri gets separated from her father, a giant humanoid weapon of the old age attacks her. Ruri is saved by a girl named Tekuni who is traveling around the world training as a "Wazabito" fighter.

Where it came from
Waza no Tabibito, or The Traveler of Techniques, emerged in 2011 as part of the expanded multimedia landscape surrounding the popular Japanese franchise associated with traditional crafts and regional promotion. Produced during a period where animation was increasingly utilized to spotlight the cultural heritage and artisanal expertise of specific Japanese prefectures, the film serves as both a narrative work and a tribute to the preservation of local manufacturing traditions.
The production sought to blend instructional aesthetics with a gentle, observational storytelling style. By focusing on the intersection of human craftsmanship and artistic legacy, the creators intended to document fading techniques for a modern audience. The project was received as a contemplative entry in the studio’s catalog, valued primarily by enthusiasts of regional Japanese culture and those interested in the preservation of heritage through visual media.
