Where it came from
Wind: A Breath of Heart was released as a three-part original video animation series in 2004, produced by Studio KSS. The project was adapted from the visual novel of the same name developed by Minori, which had gained significant attention in the early 2000s for its sentimental narrative and distinct aesthetic. The production sought to distill the game's complex emotional arcs and supernatural elements into a condensed format, targeting existing fans of the franchise who were interested in seeing the characters brought to life through animation.
The character designs were handled with the goal of translating the soft, emotive style of the original illustrations into a fluid medium. While the series was received with moderate interest by fans of the genre, it remains a notable example of the mid-2000s trend of adapting popular visual novels into short-form anime. The OVA serves as a snapshot of the visual storytelling techniques common to that period, focusing heavily on atmospheric character interactions and the melodramatic themes central to the source material.
