Where it came from
Wu Geng Ji 2 is a Chinese 3D animated series produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures, serving as the second season of the adaptation of the manhua series Feng Shen Ji by Zheng Jian He and Deng Zhi Hui. The production emerged during a period of rapid expansion for the Chinese animation industry, aiming to translate the dark, mythological scope of the source material into high-fidelity computer-generated imagery. It continues the narrative of Wu Geng, a young prince who rebels against the tyrannical gods, building upon the world-building established in the inaugural season.
The series design is notable for its fusion of traditional Chinese mythology with contemporary fantasy aesthetics, emphasizing intricate character models and dynamic combat choreography. Behind the scenes, the production team sought to elevate the quality of domestic 3D animation, utilizing stylized motion capture and advanced rendering techniques. Upon its release, the second season was received as a significant technical step forward for Tencent's animation slate, garnering attention for its mature tone and ambitious visual scale compared to standard children-oriented programming of the time.
