Xian Jian Qi Xia Zhuan 1

Xian Jian Qi Xia Zhuan, often referred to as Chinese Paladin, originated as a seminal role-playing game in 1995 that defined the xianxia genre in Chinese interactive entertainment. The 2017 ONA series, produced by Colored Pencil Animation, was conceived as a promotional adaptation to revitalize the franchise's reach among younger digital-native audiences who had grown up with the evolving aesthetic of Chinese animation.

The animation style draws heavily from traditional Chinese ink-wash influences blended with modern cel-shaded techniques, a visual choice intended to bridge the gap between the game's classic 2D sprite roots and contemporary production standards. Upon its release, the adaptation was received as a nostalgic gesture for long-term fans, noted specifically for its faithful recreation of the original narrative's emotional tone and its atmospheric approach to the wuxia setting.
