Ya-Ne-Sen a Go Go

Ya-Ne-Sen a Go Go is a localized guide and cultural map series centered on the Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi districts of Tokyo. These neighborhoods, collectively known as Yanesen, are celebrated for retaining a nostalgic, low-rise atmosphere that survived the firebombing of the Second World War. The publication emerged as a grassroots effort to document the area's unique architectural heritage and local shop culture during a period of rapid urban development in Tokyo.

The publication was notably curated by a small group of local residents who sought to foster a sense of community pride and preservation. Its design style is intentionally humble, favoring hand-drawn maps, personal essays, and intimate photography that emphasizes the lived experience of the neighborhood. While it began as a niche project, it was well-received by urban historians and residents alike for resisting the polished, commercialized travel guide aesthetic and highlighting the subtle charms of historic Tokyo.
