Yingtao Xiaowanzi: Qihuan Biji

Yingtao Xiaowanzi: Qihuan Biji (Cherry Maruko: Fantastic Notes) was produced by Guangdong Sublime Media as part of the long-running animated franchise based on Momoko Sakura's classic manga, Chibi Maruko-chan. Released to expand the franchise's reach into feature-length narratives, the film sought to blend the familiar, relatable slice-of-life humor of the original series with elements of fantasy and adventure. It reflects the studio's broader commitment to adapting established Japanese intellectual properties for the Chinese-speaking market while maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the source material.

The character design remains faithful to Sakura's iconic, minimalist style, emphasizing expressive faces and distinct silhouettes that have defined the franchise since its inception in the late 1980s. In this installment, the creative team aimed to place the protagonist in a more imaginative setting, allowing for visual experimentation while preserving the character's signature personality traits—her playfulness, stubbornness, and deep, often comical, sentimental streak. The film was received by audiences as a nostalgic continuation of the series, drawing in both longtime fans of the manga and younger viewers experiencing the character's gentle humor for the first time.
