Where it came from
The Yokosobokudesu selection represents a curated collection of student works emerging from the film department at Tama Art University. These projects were produced as part of the rigorous academic curriculum at one of Japan's most prestigious art institutions, serving as a platform for emerging animators and filmmakers to experiment with narrative structure and visual aesthetics before entering the professional industry.
The films within this collection typically emphasize the avant-garde sensibilities fostered by the university’s faculty, who encourage students to challenge traditional storytelling conventions. By focusing on distinct visual identities and unconventional pacing, these works were designed to showcase the technical proficiency and creative risk-taking inherent in the university's studio culture, earning recognition primarily within academic film circles and independent festival circuits.
