Where it came from
Yowai 5000-nen no Soushoku Dragon, Iwarenaki Jaryuu Nintei: Chokotto, or A Herbivorous Dragon of 5000 Years Gets Unfairly Villainized: Nibbles, was released in 2023 as a series of short-form ONA episodes accompanying the main anime adaptation. Produced by Studio LAN and bilibili, this spin-off series centers on the comedic interactions between a pacifist, ancient dragon and a young girl who insists he is a powerful dark entity, distilling the light novel series by Kaisei Enomoto into brief, episodic vignettes.
The character designs and animation style maintain the whimsical, fantasy-comedy aesthetic established in the primary adaptation, aiming to highlight the ironic contrast between the dragon's gentle, vegetarian nature and his fearsome reputation. The project was conceived as a supplemental piece of content to engage existing fans of the franchise, focusing on lighthearted gags and rapid-fire storytelling that leans into the charming absurdity of the source material's premise.
