Yu Pan

Yu Pan, or The Feathered Fan, is a notable work produced by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio during the mid-20th century, a period often referred to as the golden age of Chinese animation. The film drew heavily from traditional Chinese artistic styles, blending folklore-inspired narratives with classical aesthetics to establish a distinct cultural identity within the medium of stop-motion and cutout animation.

The production utilized intricate artistic techniques characteristic of the studio's experimental era, focusing on fluid character movement and atmospheric storytelling. It was designed to emphasize visual craftsmanship over Western-style animation tropes, garnering significant critical acclaim within China for its contribution to the development of national cinema and its success in elevating the technical standards of domestic animated films.
