Where it came from
Yuukei, translating to Evening Scenery, is a prominent track and music video within the Kagerou Project, a multimedia franchise created by the musician and author Shizen no Teki-P, also known as Jin. The piece was released in 2012 as part of a sprawling narrative known as the Kagerou Daze, which weaves together song lyrics, light novels, and an anime adaptation to tell a complex story about a group of teenagers experiencing a repeating time loop on August 15th.
The visual aesthetic of Yuukei is defined by the distinct, high-contrast illustration style of Sidu, a long-time collaborator on the project. The design focuses on the character of Kenjiro Tateyama and the melancholic, twilight-hued atmosphere of the franchise's world. Upon its release, the work was celebrated for its narrative depth and technical production, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of the Vocaloid-adjacent culture that dominated Japanese internet music in the early 2010s.
