Zui Zui Zukkorobashi

Zui Zui Zukkorobashi is a traditional Japanese children's song, or warabe uta, that dates back to the Edo period. It gained significant modern cultural visibility through its inclusion on the NHK television program Minna no Uta, which has broadcast various animated interpretations of the song over several decades. The song describes a child's perspective on the atmosphere of a tea house, featuring a rhythmic, hand-clapping sequence that has been passed down through generations as a playground staple.

The song's lyrical content is often considered mysterious, featuring references to tea preparation and the comings and goings of local officials. When adapted for broadcast by NHK, the visual accompaniment often leaned into whimsical or folk-inspired animation styles to match the song's infectious, percussive cadence. The composition remains a fundamental part of the Japanese folk canon, valued for its preservation of regional linguistic nuances and its enduring role in musical education.
