Bar-backed Partridge

The bar-backed partridge, Arborophila brunneopectus, is a species of forest-dwelling game bird native to Southeast Asia, specifically spanning regions from southern China and Myanmar to Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. It belongs to the Phasianidae family and is characterized by its distinctive plumage, which features the prominent, dark-barred breast for which it is named. These birds are primarily found in evergreen forests at moderate elevations, where their rounded wing and tail shapes facilitate maneuverability within dense, cluttered understory environments.

The species was first formally described by the American ornithologist Edward William Nelson in 1891. Its classification within the genus Arborophila reflects its specialized adaptation to montane forest floors, where it typically moves in small groups.
