Bare-eyed Pigeon

The Bare-eyed Pigeon, scientifically known as Patagioenas corensis, is a species native to the arid regions of northern Colombia, Venezuela, and the islands of the Dutch Caribbean. It was first described by the Dutch naturalist Nikolaus Michael Oppenoorth in 1843. The species is characterized by its distinct, fleshy, yellow-orange orbital skin, which gives the bird its common name and serves as a primary identifying feature for ornithologists studying neotropical columbids.

Evolutionarily adapted for life in xerophytic scrublands and cacti forests, the bird's morphology—specifically its broad wings and rounded tail—reflects a requirement for agile, short-burst flight within dense or confined vegetation.
