Bearded Guan

The Bearded Guan (Penelope barbata) is an enigmatic cracid native to the humid montane forests of the southern Ecuadorian and northern Peruvian Andes. First described by the ornithologist George Robert Gray in 1860, this bird occupies a specialized ecological niche, favoring cloud forests at elevations typically between 1,700 and 2,800 meters.
