Belford's Melidectes

Belford's Melidectes, or the Belford's honeyeater, is a bird endemic to the mountain forests of New Guinea. It was first described by Charles Walter De Vis in 1890, named in honor of George Belford, a collector who facilitated early ornithological exploration in the region. As a member of the Meliphagidae family, the species is distinguished by its dark plumage, distinctive facial wattles, and, as noted in the physical record, its characteristic rounded wing and tail shapes that support its life in dense highland canopy environments.
