Biak Hooded Pitta

The Biak Hooded Pitta, scientifically classified as Pitta rosenbergii, is an island endemic species restricted to the Biak-Supiori islands of Indonesia. Its biological history is deeply tied to the unique evolutionary pressures of the Schouten Islands, which fostered its distinct plumage and morphology. The species was historically categorized as a subspecies of the Hooded Pitta before taxonomic revisions established its status as a separate entity due to its specific geographical isolation and unique vocalizations.
