Blue-banded Pitta

The Blue-banded Pitta (Erythropitta arquata) was formally described by the ornithologist Gould in 1871. Native to the dense, primary rainforests of Borneo, the species occupies a specific niche within the subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. It is classified within the Pittidae family, a group of birds celebrated among naturalists for their vibrant plumage and elusive behavior, which made them highly sought-after subjects for 19th-century specimen collectors and avian illustrators.

The design of this bird, characterized by its rounded wing and tail shapes, is an evolutionary adaptation for life in thick undergrowth, allowing for short, bursts of maneuverable flight rather than sustained migration.
