Black-billed Shrike-Tyrant

The Black-billed Shrike-Tyrant (Agriornis montanus) is a member of the Tyrannidae family, first described by Alcide d'Orbigny and Frédéric de Lafresnaye in 1837. Native to the high-altitude regions of the Andes, its evolutionary trajectory has been shaped by the harsh, open environments of the puna and paramo zones. Its physical characteristics, such as the pointed wings and notched tail, are functional adaptations designed to support its hunting style, allowing it to patrol arid landscapes and scan for prey with a direct, raptorial flight pattern.
