Black-capped Social-Weaver

The Black-capped Social-Weaver, classified as Pseudonigrita cabanisi, is a small passerine bird native to the dry bushlands and semi-arid regions of East Africa, particularly in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Tanzania. Unlike solitary birds, this species is defined by its highly social behavior, characterized by the construction of elaborate, communal nests woven from grasses. These structural marvels often serve as the focal point of the species' life cycle, providing protection and a center for cooperative breeding behaviors within the arid landscapes they inhabit.

Taxonomically described in the 19th century, the bird’s physical characteristics—most notably its broad, maneuverable wings and notched tail—are evolved adaptations for navigation within the thorny thickets of its habitat.
