Black-faced Dacnis

The Black-faced Dacnis, scientifically known as Dacnis lineata, is a small, vibrant passerine bird native to the canopy and edges of humid forests throughout the Amazon basin and parts of the Andes. First described in the mid-19th century, this species represents the biodiversity of the Neotropical tanager family, Thraupidae. Its evolutionary development has resulted in distinct sexual dimorphism, with males showcasing a striking turquoise-blue plumage contrasted by a prominent black mask, a design that serves both in mate selection and species recognition within the dense, shaded forest environment.

The physical morphology of the species, characterized by its rounded wings and slightly notched tail, is finely tuned for agile flight within the forest canopy.
