Bruce's Green-Pigeon

Bruce's Green-Pigeon, scientifically classified as Treron waalia, was formally described by the French naturalist René Primevère Lesson in 1831. The species is named in honor of the Scottish explorer James Bruce, who documented various avian species during his extensive 18th-century travels through Ethiopia and the Nile region. As a member of the Columbidae family, its evolutionary path is marked by a specialized adaptation to a frugivorous diet, particularly the consumption of wild figs, which dictates its distribution across the Afrotropical realm.
