Collared Imperial-Pigeon

The Collared Imperial-Pigeon, scientifically classified as Ducula mullerii, is native to the lowland forests and mangroves of southern New Guinea and the Aru Islands. It was first formally described by the ornithologist Salomon Müller in 1844, for whom the species is named. As a member of the diverse Ducula genus, the species reflects the evolutionary specialization of large pigeons adapted to the lush, fruit-bearing canopy environments of the Australasian tropics.

The physical characteristics of the species, including its characteristically broad wings and rounded tail, have evolved to support its movement through dense forest strata. These biological traits are consistent with the broader Imperial-Pigeon family, which is known for a robust build and specialized dietary habits centered on forest fruits.
