Seram Imperial-Pigeon

The Seram imperial-pigeon, scientifically classified as Ducula neglecta, is an avian species endemic to the island of Seram in Indonesia. Taxonomically, it was historically considered a subspecies of the spice imperial-pigeon but has been increasingly recognized as a distinct species based on its unique morphology and geographical isolation within the Wallacea region. It inhabits lowland and foothill forests, where its broad wings and rounded tail facilitate maneuvering through dense canopy foliage in search of fruiting trees.

The biological design of this pigeon reflects its ecological adaptation to a life largely spent in the high canopy. The broad wing shape allows for high-lift, sustained flight between forest patches, while the rounded tail provides the stability and agility required for maneuvering in thick vegetation.
