D'Arnaud's Barbet

D'Arnaud's barbet was first described by the French naturalist Marc Athanase Parfait Œillet Des Murs in 1861. Named in honor of the French explorer and engineer Joseph-Pons-Alexis de Arnaud, the bird is a member of the Lybiidae family. It is native to the savanna and scrubland habitats of East Africa, spanning regions across Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, and Tanzania, where its distinct, repetitive vocalizations and social behavior have long made it a notable presence in the African bush.

The species is characterized by its compact, rounded wing shape and short tail, which facilitate its characteristic darting flight patterns between low branches. Ornithologists often highlight its plumage, which features a striking pattern of black spots on a yellow breast and a notably patterned head.
