Doherty's Bushshrike

Doherty's Bushshrike, named after the American naturalist William Doherty, is a bird native to the montane forests of East Africa, specifically the Albertine Rift. It was formally described in 1899, during a period of intense European biological exploration in the region. The species occupies a niche in the dense undergrowth, which has historically kept it somewhat elusive, though it is recognized by ornithologists as a key indicator of the health of high-altitude forest ecosystems.

The bird is characterized by its vivid, disruptive coloration, which serves as camouflage within its complex, shadowed habitat.
