Dusky-backed Jacamar

The Dusky-backed Jacamar is a member of the Galbulidae family, a group of near-passerine birds primarily found in the tropical regions of Central and South America. Historically, this species was identified and documented by ornithologists operating within the lowland forests of northwestern Colombia and eastern Panama. The species, named in honor of the naturalist T.K. Salmon who collected specimens in Antioquia, occupies a specific ecological niche defined by humid, dense forest environments.

The physical design of the Dusky-backed Jacamar reflects its specialized evolutionary adaptation to a diet of insects captured in mid-air.
