Godlewski's Bunting

Godlewski's bunting (Emberiza godlewskii) was first described by the Russian naturalist Wladyslaw Taczanowski in 1874. The species was named in honor of the Polish naturalist Wiktor Godlewski, who explored the trans-Baikal region of Siberia during the 19th century. Its taxonomy reflects the broader context of 19th-century ornithological expeditions that sought to categorize the diverse avian life across the Eurasian steppes and mountainous regions.

The bird is characterized by its distinct physical traits, including rounded wings and a notched tail, which facilitate its movement across the rocky slopes and scrublands of its native habitat.
