Golden-backed Mountain Tanager

The Golden-backed Mountain Tanager, scientifically known as Cnemathraupis aureodorsalis, was first formally described by ornithologist George Lowery and John O'Neill in 1964. This species is endemic to the humid montane forests of the central Andes in Peru, specifically within the departments of Huánuco and Pasco. It emerged as a distinct subject of study during a period of increased biological survey work in South America, where researchers sought to catalog the high-altitude avian diversity of the Peruvian cloud forests.
