Golden-tufted Grackle

The Golden-tufted Grackle, Macroagelaius imthurni, is a distinct species of icterid bird native to the tepui highlands of the Guiana Shield. It was formally described in the late 19th century, with its namesake being the explorer Everard im Thurn, who documented the unique biodiversity of Mount Roraima. The species is characterized by its iridescent plumage and the specialized, vibrant gold feathers surrounding its crest, which have long fascinated ornithologists studying the isolated ecosystems of the South American cloud forests.

The bird’s morphology, specifically its broad wings and pointed tail, is an evolutionary adaptation to the high-altitude, wind-swept environment of the tepuis.
