The Gray-chinned Hermit, scientifically classified as Phaethornis griseogularis, is a member of the Trochilidae family native to the humid forests and foothills of the northern Andes and the Amazon basin. It was formally described by the ornithologist John Gould in 1851, following the mid-19th century surge in European naturalists documenting South American biodiversity.
