Gray-headed Honeyeater

The Gray-headed honeyeater, Ptilotula keartlandi, is a species endemic to the arid regions of inland Australia. First described in 1895 by the ornithologist Alfred John North, the bird was named in honor of George A. Keartland, a naturalist who collected the type specimen during the Calvert Expedition. Its discovery occurred during a period of intense focus on mapping the avian biodiversity of the Australian outback, reflecting the era's fascination with species specifically adapted to harsh, desert environments.

The bird's design is a striking example of evolutionary adaptation, characterized by its rounded wings and notched tail.
