Great Thick-knee

The Great Thick-knee, scientifically classified as Esacus recurvirostris, is a large, ground-dwelling bird belonging to the family Burhinidae. It is native to the riverine landscapes of South and Southeast Asia, inhabiting shingle banks, sandy islands, and broad riverbeds. Evolutionary adaptations such as its heavy, upturned, black-and-yellow bill and large, yellow eyes are specialized for a nocturnal or crepuscular lifestyle, allowing it to forage effectively for crustaceans and insects along the margins of waterways.
