Green Avadavat

The Green Avadavat, or Amandava formosa, is a small estrildid finch native to the grasslands and scrub forests of central India. Historically, the species has been noted by ornithologists for its unique appearance, characterized by its distinctive olive-green plumage and intricate barring, which sets it apart from the more common red-colored members of its genus. It was first described scientifically in the 19th century, gaining attention within the colonial-era bird trade for its aesthetic appeal and melodious song, though it has always remained a species of conservation concern due to habitat loss.
