Horned Puffin

The horned puffin, scientifically classified as Fratercula corniculata, is a seabird species native to the North Pacific Ocean. It was formally described by naturalist Johann Friedrich Naumann in 1821, following observations of the species across coastal cliffs in Alaska and Siberia. Evolutionarily, the bird's distinct morphology, including its pointed wings for efficient flight and short, stiff tail for navigation, reflects a specialization for life in rough maritime environments where it maneuvers through high-latitude waters to forage for small fish.
