Kauai Amakihi

The Kauai Amakihi, scientifically known as Chlorodrepanis stejnegeri, is a species of honeycreeper endemic to the island of Kauai. It evolved within the isolated volcanic environment of the Hawaiian archipelago, adapting its short, decurved bill to forage for nectar and insects among the native ohia lehua trees. As a member of the diverse Hawaiian honeycreeper lineage, it represents a primary example of adaptive radiation, where ancestral finch-like birds arrived in the islands millions of years ago and diverged into numerous distinct species based on available ecological niches.
